The 1960s and 70s brought the world several wonderful Christmas specials from Rankin-Bass. A few, such as RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER and SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN are true classics and a few are really milking the franchise a bit too much (such as RUDOLPH'S SHINY NEW YEAR and THE EASTER BUNNY IS COMING TO TOWN).
Not nearly as good as earlier Rankin/Bass holiday television specials, but it has a similar style and is still enjoyable. The Miser Brothers take some getting used to, but will grow on you a little.
She has her lines turned around also.
I was a mixture of skeptical and excited to find this movie in the $5 section at the store. AYWASC is my absolute FAVORITE Christmas classic movie.
Mrs. Claus (Shirley Booth) shares the story about the year Santa Claus (Mickey Rooney), suffering from a bad cold and discouraged that people no longer believe in him, decided to take a vacation from Christmas.
Sure, it's low-budget. I mean even the credits look like I did them in my sleep.
I love Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, but no matter what, The Year Without A Santa Claus will always remain as my favorite Rankin/Bass Christmas special. The Miser Brothers are great, its extremely charming, and I'd argue the best animation out of the Rankin/Bass specials.
Excellent feel good Christmas movie. A true classic.
Jimmy said, "Thank you Snow Miser and Heat Miser for letting me know what would happen if I had dropped ACID with Biden and Trump!" Ha ahahhahahahhahaha Well said Jimmy!
